You will be certified as an Open Water Diver giving you respect and recognition world wide as you and your buddy dive independent of a professional.   Anyone who is in good health, able to swim, comfortable in the water and relatively fit can earn an Open Water Diver Certification.  If you have children ages 10 to 14 they can be certified as a Junior Open Water Diver so the entire family can enjoy the fun.  During the scuba course you will learn diving basics, become familiar with the equipment and diving techniques.

The Open Water Course is broken into 3 parts and each must be completed before we can move to the next.

Part one of the course has been developed to allow you to study at your convenience.  You will meet with your instructor for 45 minuets or so to complete the paperwork and you will receive the PADI Open water Divers Manual, Recreational Dive Planner (RDP), Divers Log Book and the use of the PADI DVD's or Videos that you need for the home study, the DVD's or Video's must be returned at the end of certification.  A schedule will be setup for part 2 and 3, along with making any travel arrangements for the open water dives.

Part 2 is the knowledge review and water skills session. You will spend 8 - 10 hours in the pool.  Prior to each pool session, your instructor will review with you the concepts and skills that you have learned in phase 1.

The open water dives.  This is what you have been working so hard for.  You are now moving to the open water, underwater world for the first time.  You will make a minimum of 4 dives, over a two day period, in an ocean, lake or spring, where you will demonstrate the knowledge and skill you have mastered in first two parts.

The cost of the Open Water Certification covers Open Water Divers Manual, RDP, weights and belt, regulator with console/compass and second stage, a BCD and pool rental.  Each student will also receive a dive log book.

The student must provide a quality mask, snorkel and fins and booties.  You the student will also be responsible for a wetsuit on your open water dives. If you do not own your own equipment Black Tip Divers has equipment that you may rent.  Please contact us prior to your class so that we can have the equipment you need.
